Two Pakistan Army soldiers were killed and three others sustained injuries when militants attacked a vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED) at Bazay mountainous area in Makeen in South Waziristan on Thursday.

Security officials said the militants had planted the (IED) on the road near Makeen town and triggered the explosion to blow up a double-cabin pickup truck carrying soldiers. Two soldiers died on the spot and three others suffered multiple injuries in the attack, they said.

The soldiers were later rescued and admitted to a hospital at the nearby Razmak military base in North Waziristan tribal region. Three of them were stated to have suffered serious injuries but were reported to be in a stable condition.
